MMA fighter Wyatt faces murder charge
Fox Sports
A mixed martial arts fighter who allegedly gouged out another man's heart and eyes after drinking mushroom tea will stand trial in Northern California on a murder charge, the Times-Standard in Eureka, Calif., reported Wednesday.
Jarrod Wyatt, 26, also faces charges of aggravated mayhem and torture stemming from the grisly March killing of his 21-year-old friend Taylor Powell, after a Del Norte County Superior Court judge ruled Wednesday there was sufficient evidence to put the case before a jury.
Jarrod Wyatt.
Wyatt, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, is due to reappear in court Friday for arraignment.
Powell was killed at a home in the coastal town of Requa, about 40 miles south of the Oregon board, early on March 21. He bled to death after his heart was removed from his body while still alive, according to his death certificate.
Deputies, responding to a 911 call, found Wyatt at the scene.
Another man had raised the alarm after allegedly seeing him naked and dripping with blood, standing over the mutilated body.
The witness told officials Wyatt had earlier been acting strangely after drinking “some kind of mushroom tea.”
No, obviously that's not a move you see in the Octagon or anywhere outside a Mortal Kombat video game. I just mean the fact that he's a trained fighter is worth mentioning, because almost by definition he's more dangerous than some pot-bellied middle-aged dad.

· Ya I know hes a mma fighter but you dont train to rip someones heart out and eyes out come on people, it was the drugs.
... This is why pro fighters are treated more harshly when they are charged with assault, because they have received training that makes them do more damage, and makes them a greater threat. With great power comes great responsibility.
I'm having a hard time understanding why so many are upset about the MMA reference. It's extremely salient to the story that the man was training to fight. It underlines the fact that he is a dangerous man. MMA is a generic term, folks, the UFC or WEC or nobody else was impugned by that.
I think MMA is one of the most exciting and entertaining sports to watch today. But to make it sound like it's the cause of this one individuals reason to have done this is a gross slander. The guy just couldn't handle his drugs plain and simple. I'm sure he's probably is blaming MMA for this act but nobody made him join the MMA he did it all on his own and now he has to face the punishment on his own not the MMA.

This guy was also a high school dropout, and a former 7-11 employee. Why not mention that? Better watch out for those former 7-11 HS dropouts,....those guys are stone cold killers
